Pulp, paper and paperboard - Determination of magnesium content

Magnesium content in pulp, paper and board can be determined by atomic absorption spectrometry as follows:

  1. Sample preparation: Take a certain amount of pulp, paper or cardboard sample, add appropriate amount of concentrated hydrochloric acid and nitric acid, let it stand for a period of time to completely dissolve, add deionized water to dilute to a certain volume, and then the sample solution is obtained.

  2. Instrument adjustment: turn on the atomic absorption spectrometer, adjust and preheat according to the instrument manual.

  3. Calibration: Calibrate with a magnesium standard solution of known concentration.

  4. Determination: inject the sample solution into the atomic absorption spectrometer for determination, and calculate the magnesium content in the sample according to the absorbance value displayed by the instrument and the calibration curve.
