Overview of Coated Film thickness detection method

The inspection of coating thickness is generally divided into two types of inspection methods: average coating thickness and local thickness. Since the local thickness can better reflect the quality of the product in practical applications than the average thickness, the local thickness or local average thickness of the coating is measured in most cases. During thickness measurement, at least three thicknesses shall be measured at representative or specified locations, and the average value thereof shall be calculated as the thickness measurement result.

The thickness of the coating is one of the important signs to measure the quality of the coating. The thickness of the coating greatly affects the reliability and use value of the coated product. Through the detection of coating thickness, in addition to evaluating whether the coating with tolerance index or repair size requirements is reasonable, it can also directly or indirectly evaluate the corrosion resistance, abrasiveness, porosity and other properties of the coating. Therefore, it is widely used in coating quality inspection and process research. (Related instrument: Thickness Gauge)

There are two types of coating thickness inspection methods: destructive testing method and non-destructive testing method (nondestructive testing method). There are many kinds of destructive detection methods, such as spot cleaning method, liquid flow method, chemical dissolution method, electric quantity method (coulomb method), metallographic microscope method, contour method and interference microscope method, etc., and magnetic method, eddy current method, etc. method, X-ray fluorescence thickness measurement, β-ray backscattering method, light section microscopy and energy spectroscopy, etc. The destructive thickness measurement method is generally suitable for non-precious painted parts or products processed by a large number of painted parts. Non-destructive thickness measurement is suitable for some expensive or delicate coating products. (Related instrument: Coating Thickness Gauge)
