How to measure the viscosity of paints with ISO Flow Cup?

Overview

ISO Flow Cup is a commonly used liquid flow measurement device, usually used to measure the flow speed and viscosity of a liquid to determine its viscosity grade. It is a standard developed by the international standards organization (ISO), hence the name. ISO Flow Cup usually consists of a conical cup body and a small hole. During measurement, the cup body is filled with the liquid to be tested, and then the small hole is opened to allow the liquid to flow out. The viscosity grade of the liquid can be determined by calculating the time it takes for the liquid to flow out of the small hole.

Type

ISO Flow Cups are divided into several specifications according to the pore size, such as ISO 2431, ISO 2432, ISO 2433, etc. Different specifications of ISO Flow Cups are suitable for different ranges of liquid viscosity measurement. In addition, ISO Flow Cups can also be used for viscosity measurement of liquid materials such as Coatings, paints, resins, chemicals, etc.

Application

ISO Flow Cup is widely used in industrial production, mass control and scientific research. It is a simple and effective method for measuring liquid viscosity. The significance of using ISO Flow Cup to measure liquid viscosity is to determine the mass of the liquid. By measuring the viscosity of the liquid, the flowability and viscosity consistency of the liquid can be judged, and then its mass status can be understood. This is very important for industrial production, mass control and scientific research.

Operation steps:

  1. First clean the ISO Flow Cup to ensure that its inner walls are free of any impurities, then thoroughly clean the cup with acetone or Miscellaneous suitable solvent and mark the scale line on the cup body.

  2. Stir the paint to be tested evenly, ensuring that there are no bubbles in the paint, and filtrate it to remove any impurities.

  3. Take a certain amount of paint in a dosage cup, pour it into an ISO Flow Cup, and record the time when the paint flows out within a specified time (usually 20 seconds).

  4. By calculating the time it takes for the paint to flow out of the ISO Flow Cup, its viscosity grade is calculated according to the ISO 2431 standard.

Precautions

  • Before each measurement, make sure that the ISO Flow Cup and paint are at the same temperature to avoid temperature differences affecting the measurement results.

  • Before each measurement, make sure that the ISO Flow Cup is clean and free of any impurities inside, otherwise it will affect the accuracy of the measurement.

  • When measuring, the measurement should be carried out in strict accordance with the time and flow specified in the ISO 2431 standard to ensure the accuracy of the results.

  • Stir the paint evenly before measurement and filtrate to remove any impurities to ensure the accuracy of the measurement results.

  • After the measurement is completed, the ISO Flow Cup should be cleaned in time to avoid paint residue affecting the next measurement.
