The difference between lighting method d8 and d0

Lighting methods D8 and D0 are two different lighting conditions used in color measurement. Their main differences are as follows:

D8 lighting mode:

Light source angle: In the D8 lighting method, the angle between the light source and the observer is 8 degrees. This means that the incident angle between the light source and the sample surface is 8 degrees, and the observer's viewing angle is also 8 degrees.

Scope of application: D8 lighting method is mainly used for the measurement of surface color, especially for the color measurement of solid surfaces, such as coatings, plastics, textiles, etc.

Reflection characteristics: Under the D8 lighting mode, the light reflected by the sample surface mainly comes from the scattering of incident rays and the surface reflection, which has good covering performance and can reduce the influence on the surface defects and texture of the sample.

D0 lighting mode:

Light source angle: In D0 lighting mode, the angle between the light source and the observer is 0 degrees. This means that the light source illuminates the sample surface vertically, and the observer's viewing angle is also 0 degrees.

Scope of application: D0 lighting method is mainly used for color measurement of transparent materials and liquids, such as glass, liquid solutions, etc. It is also suitable for measuring the color of transparent coatings on solid surfaces.

Reflection characteristics: Under D0 lighting mode, the color of the sample surface is mainly reflected by incident rays, and the influence of scattered light is not considered. This lighting method is more suitable for color measurement of transparent materials and can provide more accurate transparency and color information.

The D8 lighting method is suitable for color measurement of most solid surfaces, while the D0 lighting method is suitable for color measurement of transparent materials and liquids. Choosing the appropriate lighting method depends on the type of sample being measured, the desired measurement results and the setting of the instrument. In practice, the corresponding lighting method should be selected according to specific needs and ensure that the measurement is carried out in accordance with relevant standards and specifications.
