PE tube weathering resistance and its detection method

It is very important to measure the weather resistance of polyethylene (PE) pipes, because PE pipes are widely used in water supply, drainage, natural gas transportation and industrial pipelines, and need to be able to resist ultraviolet radiation, temperature changes, humidity, chemical substances and erosion of many factors such as mechanical stress. Weather resistance testing can help evaluate the stability, physical properties and service life of PE pipes under these conditions to ensure that they can maintain good performance and reliability in the application.

Measurement method

Accelerated aging test: Use simulated accelerated aging equipment, such as ultraviolet radiation lamps or constant temperature and Humidity Chamberes, to expose PE pipe samples for a certain period of time. Evaluate the weather resistance of PE pipes by observing appearance changes, color stability, surface cracking, peeling or other shape changes.

Physical property testing: Measure the physical properties of PE pipe samples, such as strength, hardness, impact resistance and wear resistance. Evaluate whether the physical properties of PE pipes are affected by weather conditions by comparing test results at different time points.

Dimensional stability measurement: Measure the dimensional change of PE pipe samples, including parameters such as length, diameter and wall thickness. Evaluate the dimensional stability and change of PE pipe by comparing the measurement results at different time points.

Chemical property analysis: Use chemical analysis methods, such as infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) or nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), to detect changes in the chemical properties of PE pipe samples under weatherproof conditions. Observe whether changes in molecular structure, chemical bond breakage, or decomposition product formation occur.

Breaking strength test: Use a pressure Tester or exTension Tester to apply internal pressure or external force to the PE pipe sample to measure its breaking strength. Evaluate the weather resistance and rupture resistance of PE pipes by comparing the test results at different time points.

Long-term burial test: PE pipe samples are buried in soil or water and exposed to the actual environment for a period of time to observe their performance and appearance changes. Evaluate the weather resistance of PE pipe under actual use conditions by comparing the observation results over different time periods.

Through the above methods, it is possible to comprehensively evaluate the weather resistance of PE pipes and understand their stability, physical properties and service life under different environmental conditions. This helps to improve the quality and reliability of PE pipes, ensuring that they can maintain good performance and safety for a long time in applications such as water supply, drainage, natural gas transportation and industrial pipelines. Please note that specific test methods and standards may vary depending on different PE pipe types and application requirements. Therefore, before conducting tests, it is recommended to refer to relevant standards and specifications and consult professional laboratories or testing agencies for more specific and accurate recommendations.
