Determination of abrasion resistance of paint film

The abrasion resistance of the paint film refers to the difficulty of peeling the paint film under the action of a certain friction force. This is an important parameter for evaluating the anti-wear performance and durability of coatings. According to the national standard GB4893.8 "Determination of abrasion resistance of furniture surface paint film", the measurement method of paint film abrasion resistance is as follows:

1. Equipment and materials:

Using a film abrasion instrument, such as the JM-1, an equivalent Miscellaneous abrasion instrument can also be used.

Abrasive wheels dresser, rubber abrasive wheels (JM-120), thickness 10mm, diameter 50mm.

Vacuum Cleaner, Balance (Graduation is 0.001g), etc.

2. Test steps:

Drill a hole with a diameter of 8.5mm on the sample, and take a circular plate with a diameter of 100mm as the sample.

Fix the specimen on the abrasion instrument, add a weight of 1000g to the pressure arm, and install the trimmed rubber abrasive wheels. Add an equilibrated weight equal to the weight of the abrasive wheels to the end of the arm.

Put down the pressurizing arm and turn on the power switch, vacuum switch and turntable switch. Start sanding, first sanding 50 times to form a ring with uniform abrasion on the surface of the paint film. If uneven abrasion is found, the sample should be replaced in time.

Take out the sample, remove the floating debris and weigh it accurately. The difference in mass before and after is the lost mass of the paint film.

According to the requirements of the protocol, adjust the counter to the specified number of sanding times (the previous 50 times should be subtracted), and continue sanding. After the test, observe the abrasion of the paint film surface.

Conduct parallel tests and test at least three samples. You can choose to perform different number of laps of matte tests, such as 400, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000 laps. The specific number of laps is negotiated according to actual needs.

The abrasion resistance test of the paint film allows the performance and durability of the coating under abrasion to be evaluated. This helps determine the service life and performance of the coating and provides information about the coating mass for the use of the product.
