Pavement non-skid coating performance testing

As an important means to improve the anti-skid performance of pavement, pavement anti-skid coating plays an indispensable role in road traffic safety. In order to ensure that the quality and performance of road anti-skid coatings meet standard requirements, strict performance testing is required. 1. Classification and composition

Pavement anti-skid coatings are divided into two types according to the construction method: hot-melt type and cold-coated type; according to the level of skid resistance, they are divided into three categories: ordinary anti-skid type, medium anti-skid type and high anti-skid type. Among them, cold-coating type is divided into quick-drying type and slow-drying type. Pavement anti-skid coating is composed of base material and anti-skid aggregate. After forming, the color of the coating is mainly red, green, yellow, blue, etc.

2. Technical requirements

Pavement anti-skid coatings should meet specific general physical and chemical properties, including appearance, water resistance, alkali resistance, low-temperature crack resistance of the coating, skid resistance, artificially accelerated weather resistance and other indicators.

Hot melt road anti-skid coating

In addition to meeting general requirements, hot-melt pavement anti-skid coatings must also meet specific physical and chemical properties, such as non-stick tire drying time, compressive strength, deformation resistance, heating stability and other indicators.

Cold applied road anti-skid coating

In addition to general requirements, cold-coated pavement anti-skid coatings also need to meet specific physical and chemical properties, including base material state, gel time, base material adhesion, non-stick tire drying time, etc.

Anti-slip aggregate

The physical and chemical properties of anti-skid aggregates should meet certain requirements, such as Mohs hardness, aggregate particle size, etc.

3. Inspection methods

In order to accurately evaluate the performance of pavement anti-skid coatings, strict inspection methods are required. It mainly includes inspection items in many aspects such as coating film appearance, water resistance, alkali resistance, coating low-temperature crack resistance, slip resistance, artificial accelerated weather resistance, etc. For specific methods, please refer to the standard regulations.

Performance inspection of road anti-skid coatings is a key step to ensure that their quality meets standard requirements. To achieve an accurate assessment, a series of rigorous inspection methods are required. The following are the main inspection items and methods covering coating film appearance, water resistance, alkali resistance, coating low-temperature crack resistance, slip resistance, artificially accelerated weather resistance, etc.:

Coating film appearance: By observing the dried and formed coating film, check whether the color and aggregate particle distribution are uniform, whether there are cracks, aggregate particle falling off, etc.

Water resistance: Soak the coating sample in water for 24 hours and observe whether there are any abnormalities.

Alkali resistance: Soak the coating sample in a saturated solution of calcium hydroxide for 24 hours and check whether there are any abnormalities.

Low-temperature crack resistance of the coating: After keeping it at -10°C for 4 hours, place it at room temperature for 4 hours as a cycle, and conduct three consecutive cycles to observe whether cracks appear in the coating.

Skid resistance: Evaluate the skid resistance by measuring the BPN value, and determine the appropriate BPN value range according to the coating type and specifications.

Artificially accelerated weathering resistance: Put the sample through an artificially accelerated aging test to observe whether the coating cracks or peels. Slight powdering and discoloration are allowed.

4. Inspection rules

The inspection of road anti-skid coatings is divided into two categories: type inspection and factory inspection. Type inspection needs to be carried out by the quality inspection agency with metrological certification, while factory inspection is carried out by the quality inspection department of the production unit. Only after the inspection results meet the requirements can it leave the factory.

5. Marking, packaging, transportation and storage

Pavement anti-skid coatings should be accompanied by a manufacturing label and certificate label when leaving the factory, and are required to comply with corresponding packaging, transportation and storage standards to ensure that product quality is not affected.
