Influence of inks permeability on printing quality

Ink permeability refers to the ability of the ink to penetrate into the substrate (e.g., paper) during the printing process, and this property is especially important in the early stages of ink drying. Ink permeability has a significant impact on print quality.

Affect the quality of printing

The excessive permeability of the ink will cause a large amount of binder to penetrate into the inside of the paper, and the remaining binder on the surface is insufficient to form a firm film, resulting in poor friction resistance of the printed matter, reduced color brightness and gloss, and even the phenomenon of "transparent printing". If the permeability is too low, it may lead to a longer drying time, and the back side of the printed matter is prone to dirt when stacked.

Influencing factors

Printing pressure, printing speed, temperature, nature of the substrate and surface smoothness all affect the permeability of the ink. For example, higher printing pressures increase the permeability of inks, while higher printing speeds and higher temperatures speed up the permeation process.

determinant

The permeability of the ink is mainly determined by the type, nature and amount of binder, as well as the nature and amount of pigment and filler. The greater the viscosity of the binder, the slower the permeation rate, and the excessive amount of pigment will also reduce the permeation rate.

Printing needs

Different types of prints have different requirements for ink permeability. For example, books and newspaper prints require high permeability to ensure fast drying, while color prints based on screen lines require less permeability to maintain vivid colors and gloss.

The permeability of the ink plays a key role in the printing process, which directly affects the quality of the print, the drying speed, and the final visual effect. By reasonably adjusting the permeability of the ink, according to different printing needs and substrate characteristics, the quality of printed matter can be effectively improved, and the color vividness, gloss and durability can be ensured, so as to meet the quality requirements of different types of printed matter.
