Heavy anti-corrosion coatings are a class of high-performance coatings designed to provide long-term protection in harsh, corrosive environments. These coatings are effective in dealing with the corrosive elements of chemical and marine environments, protecting critical infrastructure such as offshore platforms, chemical equipment, bridges, pipelines, storage tanks and ships.

Types of heavy anti-corrosion coatings

  • Thermal spray aluminum/zinc composite coating with organic or inorganic sealing layer

  • Epoxy coal asphalt/glass cloth composite coating

  • Glass flake coatings

  • Fluororesin coating

  • Other types of heavy anti-corrosion coatings

Among them, epoxy coal pitch and glass flake coating are two typical heavy anti-corrosion coatings, which have good corrosion resistance and physical properties.

Epoxy coal asphalt/glass cloth composite coating

  • Epoxy coal asphalt - is a coating synthesized from coal coke asphalt and epoxy resin, which has excellent water resistance, moisture resistance, chemical corrosion resistance and acid resistance. It is commonly used for corrosion protection in a variety of underwater, humid or chemical environments.

  • Coal coke asphalt – has a low softening point and is suitable for use in waterproofing coatings. It has excellent water and chemical resistance, making it particularly suitable for use in marine environments and chemical plants.

  • Epoxy resin – is a polymer compound that reacts with a curing agent by an epoxy group to form a hard coating film with excellent adhesion and durability.

  • Curing agent - used in the curing process of epoxy resin, commonly used organic amines, anhydrides and low molecular weight polyamide curing agents, different curing agents provide different curing properties, enhance the physical and chemical properties of epoxy coal pitch.

  • Glass cloth is a reinforcing material used in the anti-corrosion layer of epoxy coal asphalt to enhance the mechanical strength and corrosion resistance of the coating. When using, it is necessary to choose a medium-alkali, non-twisted, wax-free glass cloth to ensure the density and long-term durability of the coating.

Glass flake coating

Glass flake coating——It is another important anti-corrosion coating with unique structure and properties. Glass flake coating improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of the coating by adding glass flakes (small flakes with a size of 2-3 μm).

Corrosion resistance——It can withstand a variety of chemical media such as strong acid, strong alkali, petroleum solvent, etc., and can maintain good anti-corrosion effect even in salt spray environment.

Physical and mechanical properties- Due to the presence of a large number of glass flakes, the coating can effectively avoid cracking and peeling when exposed to heat or temperature changes, and enhance impact resistance.

adhesion——It has good adhesion to steel, cement and other substrates, and is suitable for a variety of surfaces.

Selection of glass flakes——It is an important factor affecting the quality of the coating, and the borosilicate glass flake with a thickness of 2-5μm is usually selected, and its diameter is closely related to the corrosion resistance and construction performance of the coating. To ensure the long-term performance of the coating, glass flakes are typically added at a rate of 5%-40%.

Application of heavy anti-corrosion coatings

Heavy anticorrosive coatings are widely used in demanding environments, especially in the chemical industry, marine engineering and construction. They can effectively extend the life of equipment, reduce maintenance costs, and improve the safety of facilities.

Chemical equipment- Heavy-duty anti-corrosion coatings are resistant to chemicals and high-temperature corrosion, protecting chemical reactors, pipelines and storage tanks.

Offshore platforms and ships- In the marine environment, anti-corrosion coatings need to resist salt spray, sea water and harsh climates to ensure the stability of the structure.

pipelines and bridges——Especially in the anti-corrosion of buried and underwater pipelines, heavy anti-corrosion coatings can effectively prevent corrosion and leakage.

Construction & Maintenance

The construction process of heavy anti-corrosion coating needs to be carried out in strict accordance with the standard to ensure the quality of the coating. During construction, the surface of the workpiece needs to be cleaned first to remove impurities such as oil stains and rust, and then the preparation of paint, primer and topcoat are applied. In special environments, such as underwater pipelines and chemical equipment, new construction methods such as cold wrapping may be required to simplify the construction process and improve construction efficiency.

conclusion

Heavy anticorrosive coatings have important application value in modern industry. With the continuous advancement of technology, the performance and application fields of coating materials are also expanding. In the future, with the increasing demand for environmental protection and long-term operation of equipment, heavy-duty anti-corrosion coatings will play a key role in more industries, providing a more solid protective barrier for equipment.
