Application of Spectroscopic Colorimeter in Detection of Age on Skin Tone

Observing with the naked eye, it can be found that the skin color of the human body also changes quietly with age. So, what intuitive changes will the change of age bring to the skin color? Are there any numbers to illustrate?

This issue mainly introduces a detection instrument, a Spectrophotometer , which can quickly and accurately detect the skin color digital information of different age groups and different groups of people. According to the color data measured by scientists using Spectrophotometer s, we can quickly analyze the color change trend and the skin color differences of people in different countries.

The skin color comparison of each age is shown in the table below:

Table L*a*b* statistics for each age group

It can be seen from the above table that the L* value of the buccal area decreases with age (P<0.05), but the statistical significance is not obvious. The a* and b* values of the buccal area gradually increase with age, and the changes are more obvious. Medically, it can be explained that the L* value will no longer accumulate under the influence of daily light in adult women, but in addition, the L* value is also related to the amount of hemoglobin, which is affected by the capillary filling, especially when the blood oxygen saturation is relatively high. This effect will be more obvious when it is low, so the decline of L* value also reflects the decline of facial skin microcirculation with age. The main reaction of the a* value is the hemoglobin content in the dermis. The gradual increase of the a* value with age does not fully explain the increase of the hemoglobin content, because the performance of skin aging is that the skin becomes thinner, loses elasticity and moisture, increases wrinkles, and changes color. Darkness, pigment accumulation, and simultaneous increases in a* and b* values are also indicative of this problem. At the same time, it can be seen that the elasticity parameters of the skin and the skin color parameters will have a good correlation. The decrease in skin elasticity is due to the loss of moisture and collagen in the skin caused by skin aging, resulting in thinning and loss of elasticity of the skin. At the same time, it can be seen that 18~29 years old is the age stage with better skin elasticity and the highest brightness.

The experimental results also show that the skin color of Chinese people is different from that of Europeans. For example, the frontal L value of healthy people aged 18~29 is 58.11±3.65, a* value is 11.06±1.55, b* value is 19.92±1.350, b* says that scientists measured the frontal L* value of Europeans in the same age group as 61.3±1.2 , the a* value is 12.2±1.2, the a* value is 12.2±0.5, and the b* value is 16.5±0.3. The L* and a* values of Chinese skin are smaller than those of Europeans, and the b* value is larger than that of Europeans. Black and yellow, while Europeans have rosier skin than Chinese.

The above are some application introductions of spectroColorimeter in detecting age-related changes in skin color, hoping to provide some reference for relevant personnel in the industry.
