The Elcometer 106 Pull-off Adhesion Tester is an instrument used to measure the adhesion of coatings such as paints, plastics, metal sprays, epoxy resins, etc. The pull-out adhesion Tester adopts the principle of pull-out test to test the pulling force used to pull out a small piece of coating from the substrate. During the test, the dolly is bonded to the coating. After the adhesive is cured, the coating is cut along the edge of the dolly, and tension is applied to the instrument to pull the dolly from the coating. At this time, the instrument indicates The tensile value is the adhesion of the coating.

There are five measuring ranges in this instrument, and each measuring range has metric and imperial systems, and the pulling force value is directly related to the area of the standard forging die.
Elcometer106/1 Range 1 (0) to 3.5 N/mm² (500 psi)
Elcometer106/2 Range 2 (0) to 7 N/mm² (1000 psi)
Elcometer106/3 Range 3 (0) to 15 N/mm² (2000 psi)
Elcometer106/4 Range 4 (0) to 22 N/mm² (3200 psi)
Elcometer106/5 Range 5 (0) to 0.2 N/mm² (30 psi)
• Elcometer106 Pull-off Adhesion Tester Mainframe

• Dolly cutter
• Wrench (range 3 and range 4)
• Suitcase
• Operation Manual
1. Roughen the surface of the dolly and the coating to be tested with sandpaper, then wipe them clean with alcohol.
2. Take a small amount of glue, mix it, and apply it to one side of the test piece.
3. Place the glue-applied dolly on the surface to be tested and press it firmly, remove the excess glue squeezed out, and wait for a while for the glue to solidify.
4. Use a cutting knife to make a careful cut around the circumference of the dolly. This step is only required if the pull inside the coating is greater than the coating adhesion. Such as: elastic coating.
5. Slide the base support ring over the dolly and make sure it is level.
6. Loosen the handle or nut of Elcometer 106 until the pointer on the dial indicates "0", and carefully clamp the forging die with the clamp at the bottom.
7. Hold the instrument firmly so that it does not rotate. Apply tension to the dolly by turning the handle or nut of the Elcometer 106 with the other hand . Continue to apply pressure until the coating is destroyed, the forging die is pulled out from the surface to be tested, or until the scale reaches the required value.
NOTE: When the dolly is pulled up, there may be a thud and the instrument pops out a few centimeters. For safety, please do not use too much force during use.
8. After the test, the handle or nut should be loosened immediately, do not pressurize, so as not to damage the instrument.
In most cases the coating will stick completely to the dolly, the test is 100% valid. Occasionally, only part of the coating may be pulled off due to localized weak bonds, and this should be allowed for when evaluating the test results. Observation of the test area will reveal further failure causes such as adhesion between different layers, tension within the coating, etc.
