The dropping point of the grease represents the temperature at which the composition of the grease drops from the grease ring to the bottom of the test for the first time under the action of heat. In fact, the dropping point can be understood as the degree to which the grease is stable to temperature, which can be understood as:
1) The temperature at which the grease melts;
2) The temperature at which the grease softens;
3) The temperature at which grease separation occurs at high temperature;
4) The temperature at which the grease dries up.
At present, the commonly used methods for the determination of the dropping point of lubricating grease in CHINA include GB/T 3498 "Measurement of the Dropping Point of Lubricating Grease in a Wide Temperature Range" and GB/T 4929 "Measurement of the Dropping Point of Lubricating Grease". The comparison between the two methods is shown in the table below .

It can be seen from the above table:
1) GB/T 3498 test method has a wider drop point measurement range than GB/T4929 test method;
2) GB/T 3498 test method to measure the dropping point of lubricating grease needs to be considered in sections, and the dropping point needs to be calculated.
