Coating additives, additives overview

Additives are auxiliary material components in coatings, which can improve the performance of a specific aspect of coatings or coating films . Different types of coatings require different additives; the same type of coating may use different additives for different purposes; one coating may add several different additives at the same time. In short, the use of additives is determined according to the different requirements of the coating. There are four types of additives :

①Auxiliaries that affect the coating production process, such as emulsifiers, dispersants, wetting agents, and defoamers;

② Function during the storage of paint, such as anti-sedimentation agent, anti-skinning agent, etc.;

③It plays a role in the film-forming process of coating construction, such as drier, leveling agent and anti-sagging agent, etc.;

④Effect on the performance of coatings , such as plasticizers, matting agents, flame retardants, antistatic agents, ultraviolet light absorbers, free radical scavengers and antifungal agents, etc. Auxiliaries are often used in small amounts in coatings, but they have significant effects and have the effect of "four or two to pull a thousand catties".
