Coating percent solids

The solids content of coatings refers to the undeveloped content of paint components, usually expressed in "%". The solids content of coatings varies depending on the type and variety of coatings. Among them, the highest solids content is powder coatings, and the solids content is 100%. The solids content of liquid coatings is specified in the HG2-502-77 standard.

The solids content of the paint is an important factor affecting the performance of the paint. Specifically, coatings with high solids content generally have the following advantages:

Good durability: Solid substances are the main functional components in coatings, and have the characteristics of durability and corrosion resistance. Coatings with high solid content can usually provide better protection;

Bright colors: Solid pigments are the source of color in paints, and paints with high solid content usually have more vivid colors;

Short drying time: the solid particles themselves do not need to be dried, and coatings with high solid content usually have short drying time and high production efficiency;

Strong coverage: Solid substances are the main coverage components in coatings, and coatings with high solid content usually have better coverage and hiding power.

Of course, the solids content of the paint will also affect the cost and construction performance of the paint. Coatings with high solids content are usually more expensive, and diluents may also be added to adjust the viscosity of the paint during construction, thereby affecting construction efficiency. Therefore, choosing a paint with an appropriate solids content needs to consider multiple factors and comprehensively measure them according to the specific situation.
