Mayer Rod (Chinese translation: Meyer Rod) is one of the main popular coating methods. A Mayer Rod is a stainless steel rod tightly wound with stainless steel wire of various diameters. The rod is used to scrape off excess coating solution and control coating thickness. The wet thickness after knife coating is controlled by the diameter of the wire used to wind the roll and is approximately 0.1 times the wire diameter. Rods are available in a variety of wires to provide a range of different coating wet film thicknesses. It should be noted that the dry film thickness is determined by the solids concentration of the coating solution.
