For the determination of the viscosity of architectural coatings, there was a standard GB/T9269 in 1988 that stipulated the Stormer viscometer method. In the standard, Sheen’s Ref.407 rotary paddle viscometer is used for testing, which is a mechanical viscometer. This article introduces another automatic Stormer viscometer to measure the viscosity of architectural coatings.
Before the introduction, let's briefly outline the principle of the test. The Stormer viscometer method is to test the load (expressed in grams) required to produce a certain rotational speed (generally 200r/min), through the load or a logarithmic function of the load Krebs (Krebs) unit ( KU) value indicates the viscosity value of the paint.
The GB/T9269 standard uses a Stormer viscometer with a strobe timer to measure the viscosity of non-Newtonian liquids by controlling the speed of the rotating paddle through the strobe observer. With the development of technology, the technology of Stormer viscometer has been continuously improved. At present, more digital display Stormer viscometers are used, and the final viscosity value can be directly obtained through automatic testing. This article introduces the TQC Krebs viscometer, which can automatically test the viscosity value of architectural coatings.

TQC Krebs Viscometer
TQC automatic Krebs viscometer is simple and intuitive to operate. With the paint sample ready to test, set up the machine, turn on the power, press "ENTER" to start spinning/measuring, stop the motor, and verify the selected rotor. Use the "UP" or "DOWN" key to enter the rotor selection interface and to scroll in both directions. After the test, the test result will be displayed automatically, and the test data can be recorded.
Run multiple tests until you get consistent test results.
The test results using the automatic Krebs viscometer can simultaneously display the KU value, load g value, and dynamic viscosity value cp. The measured results can be obtained intuitively, without the need for table lookup and conversion. And can also print test data directly.
This is the viscosity value of architectural coatings tested by TQC Krebs viscometer. In addition, there are other digital Stormer viscometers that can also test the viscosity of architectural coatings. The following are some common Stormer viscometers, digital display type, please click on the picture for details.
