Hardness test method of surface coating

Hardness testing of surface coatings can be accomplished in a number of ways. However, different hardness testing methods have different meanings of coating hardness. Essentially, there are two methods for measuring the hardness of an object, namely, static measurement method (indentation method) and dynamic measurement method. Static measurement methods include Brinell, Rockwell, Vickers hardness, etc.; dynamic measurement methods include hammer hardness, Shore, etc. In addition, the surface scratch hardness method is also used in the testing of surface coatings.

A large number of experiments have shown that for the same coating, when different test methods are used or even the same method is used to face different loads, different hardness values are displayed. When selecting a test load, a larger load should be selected as much as possible to reduce measurement errors. In addition, various hardness testing methods have their own coating thickness requirements. Only by comprehensively considering these factors can the actual hardness value be measured.
