What are the basic ingredients of Coating and what are their functions?

All kinds of coatings are composed of three parts: main film-forming substances, secondary film-forming substances and auxiliary film-forming substances.

The main film-forming substance is the main component of the paint, it is the basis of the paint, and it cannot be a paint without it. Generally, the main film-forming substances are oils and resins. The paint that uses oil as the main film-forming substance is called oil-based paint, the one that uses resin as the main film-forming substance is called resin paint, and the one that uses oil and some natural resins as the main film-forming substance is customarily called oil-based paint.

The secondary film-forming substance is an integral part of the coating film, and it cannot form a film independently of the main film-forming substance. Although there is no secondary film-forming substance in the paint, the coating film can still be formed, but with it, the performance of the coating film can be improved. Improvements have increased the variety of coatings. This substance refers to the coloring pigments and extender pigments used in paints.

Auxiliary film-forming substances include dispersion medium and plasticizers, emulsifiers, defoamers, stabilizers, curing agents, anti-skinning agents and other additives, which can improve the processing, film-forming and application properties of coatings.
