How did architectural coatings develop in our country?

The development history of my country's architectural coatings can be traced back to the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of CHINA. The interior wall decoration mainly uses traditional pastes, such as lime paste, large white paste, and Corsa silver paste. The exterior wall decoration mainly adopts the so-called "architectural coatings" such as "oil paste" mixed with lime, clay, and cement mixed with pigments or emulsified tung oil with quicklime. The decorative effect of these coatings is very poor, and the effective service life is only about two years at most.

In the 1960s, polyvinyl acetate latex coatings began to be used for interior wall decoration; solvent-based coatings were used for cement floors and cement dados.

In the 1970s, my country's architectural coatings have been greatly developed. Polyvinyl alcohol water glass interior wall coatings (that is, 1o6 internal increase coatings) were successfully developed in Shanghai. This kind of coatings is cheap, bright in color, and well bonded. has been widely used. As for polyvinyl acetate latex paint, because it is pigmented, harmless and non-combustible, and has water resistance, it can be constructed on a slightly damp base, so it is more commonly used on the interior walls of some high-end buildings.

In 1972, polyvinyl formal glue (i.e. 1o7 glue) began to be applied on the ground and exterior walls. The 1o7 glue colored ground coating made by using 1o7 glue to infiltrate white cement and add pigments was used in almost every household, and the application was quite common. . Use 1o7 glue plus white cement and color paste or use polyvinyl acetate latex with cement, colored porcelain particles, quartz sand and other building materials, and use brushing, spraying, roller method or bullet coating and other construction techniques to achieve good decorative effects .

In the late 1970s, the emergence of organic polymer copolymers such as acetic acid emulsion, ethylene-propylene emulsion, styrene-acrylic emulsion, and chlorine partial emulsion provided film-forming materials with superior performance for the interior and exterior decoration of Chinese buildings. High-build coatings formulated with these copolymers as the main film-forming substances and mixed with more thick and fine fillers and thickeners appeared one after another. my country's architectural coatings began to enter a period of vigorous development, forming a climax in the development history of Chinese architectural coatings. . This climax continued until the mid-1980s.

After entering the 1980s, my country's architectural coatings have been greatly developed. There are glossy or semi-glossy ethylene-propylene latex paints, styrene-acrylic latex paints, and interior wall paints based on polyvinyl acetate emulsions and silica sol miscibles. There are colorful paints. The physical and technical indicators such as color, decoration, adhesion, hiding power and scrub resistance of these coatings have been greatly improved. During this period, the use of coatings for interior decoration in urban and rural residential buildings in my country has gradually become popular, and the demand for coatings has also increased year by year. The exterior wall coatings of this period also developed greatly. There were colored sand exterior wall coatings with dyed quartz sand as the main filler and styrene-acrylic emulsion as the base material; epoxy two-component exterior wall coatings applied by double-tube Spray Gun technology , acrylic modified epoxy exterior wall coatings, acrylic acid-polyester exterior wall coatings, vinyl acetate-styrene-acrylate terpolymer emulsion exterior wall coatings, epoxy-acrylic acid copolymer emulsions and silica sol composite exterior wall coatings, and Elastic exterior wall coatings, silicone acrylic resin architectural finishing coatings, etc.

In the 1980s, functional building materials suddenly emerged in our country, and its varieties include: fire-resistant coatings, waterproof coatings, anti-mold coatings, anti-mosquito coatings, thermal insulation coatings, and marking coatings.

In the 1990s, the use of colorful interior wall paints was promoted throughout the country, making wall paints develop in the direction of colorful composites.

In the 1980s and 1990s, my country introduced many foreign professional architectural coating production lines and technologies. Sino-foreign joint venture architectural coating factories spread all over the southeast coast and southern CHINA. Production and applications are pushed to a higher level.
