Coatings works with steel producers, paint manufacturers, professional services firms and engineering offices around the world. This has a clear goal: to optimize safety, profitability and quality levels for the operation, construction and repair of steel structures, machines and systems in various industries. QNix® supports users with its accurate, robust and at the same time easy-to-use coating thickness measurement equipment.

Reliable coating thickness measurement on rough surfaces

Non-destructive coating thickness measurement devices provide greater coating thickness on rough surfaces than is actually usable. Therefore, compensation is necessary. The QNix® 9500 provides suitable support in two common use cases:

Sandblasted, uncoated substrates are available for conditioning:

By making two-point adjustments to the blasted surface, it is possible to adjust the measuring device to around the desired value.

Sand blasting, no contact with uncoated substrate (coated):

By making a zero point adjustment on the uncoated substrate at a similar location to the coated substrate, you can adjust the measuring device as usual. Additionally, the determined roughness of inaccessible substrates is set as an offset.

QNix® 9500 Premium+ supports predefined adjustment types according to national and international standards such as ISO 12944, IMO-PSPC or SSPC-PA2.

Measurement data acquisition and recording for reports in three clicks

To verify individual areas of the coating system, the user can define control areas according to the size of the object. A certain number of measurements need to be performed on these surfaces. QNix® 9500 Premium+ supports you with preconfigurable jobs (orders or objects) where you can create areas where measured values are saved. This way, you can track large areas, different objects or multi-layer systems.

Using QNix® software QN9, you can easily preconfigure jobs and save them as templates on the device. You can create device settings once and transfer them to other devices of the same type.

For documentation, you can use the QN9 software to create your own reports, adapting the display of measured values and evaluations to your wishes or to the requirements of your customers. With just three clicks, you can create documentation in PDF format from report templates or standard reports, or export measurements to an Excel file.

Pre-defined limit values according to national and international standards

When inspecting coating systems, the QNix® 9500 can freely adjust the limit values for maximum and minimum layer thicknesses, or support you by setting nominal layer thicknesses as well as allowable percentage deviation details (e.g. 90/10, 80/120).

QNix® 9500 Premium+ also offers you pre-configured settings for limit values (average values) according to national and international standards such as ISO 12944, IMO-PSPC or SSPC-PA2.

Limit values are displayed directly on the probe

Especially when recording many measurements on large structures, the constantly changing line of sight between the handheld device, the measurement point and the area you want to move can be tiring for the user. The newly developed QNix® Probe P3 supports you and, in combination with the QNix® 9500, shows via colored LEDs at the probe tip whether limit values have been exceeded or undershot.

Green = within limits

Red = limit value dropped below

yellow = limit value exceeded

If the limit value is exceeded, only the handheld device needs to be checked.

Displays two measured coating thickness values for double-sided coating

The "Duplex" mode of the QNix® 9500 can measure the thickness of galvanized coatings on steel substrates in a single measurement process and mainly measure epoxy-based coatings on galvanized coatings. In duplex mode, the device displays the thickness of the zinc and lacquer layers as separate values (minimum thickness for galvanization: 50 μm).
