What is percent solids?

Non-volatile-matter content refers to the part of the Coating that will not evaporate during the drying process, including Resin, extender, Pigment, additive and other ingredients. Non-volatile-matter content is also known as non-volatile content or Solid content.

Non-volatile-matter content is one of the important performance indicators in Coating. High non-volatile-matter content means that Coating has higher percent solids after drying, and better performance such as wear resistance, durability, and chemical stability. In addition, non-volatile-matter content also directly affects the Drying time of Coating and the film thickness after Coating construction.

The non-volatile-matter content can be determined by the drying method. The specific operation is to coat a known amount of Coating in a pre-weighed container, after a certain period of drying, put the container in a thermostatic oven to dry to a constant weight, and then use the differential weight method to calculate the non-volatile-matter content. Under normal circumstances, the non-volatile-matter content of Coating must comply with the regulations of the Coating manufacturer, otherwise it will affect the performance and construction effect of Coating.
