How to self-test the beating meter?

Pulp beating Tester, also called Schober beating Tester, is an instrument for measuring the water filtration performance of pulp, designed according to the principle of Schober Rigg rib method. Before using the percussIon Meter, we need to check whether it is normal. The commonly used inspection methods are as follows.

1. Blank test

Method : Pour 1000MI of distilled water at a temperature of 20 ± 1°C into the pouring chamber of the percussion instrument, press the retaining handle to make the sealing cone rise automatically, and the water flows out from the straight pipe and the inclined pipe respectively through the separation chamber. When the water outlet of the inclined pipe is not flowing, read the beating degree value from the indicating cylinder.

Comparison : If the beating degree value exceeds 4°SR, it indicates that the copper mesh is polluted and needs to be cleaned with alcohol or sodium hydroxide, acetone, etc. If the beating degree value still exceeds 4°SR after washing, it is necessary to replace the new copper mesh.

2. Filtration time test

Method : Use a plug to block the outlet of the inclined pipe to make it watertight, loosen the screw on the straight pipe casing, and remove the casing. Pour 500mL of distilled water at 20±1 into the separation chamber, the mouth of which is to pre-fill the inclined tube with water. After all 500mL of distilled water has been filtered from the straight pipe, block the overflow port (water outlet) of the straight pipe with your fingers. Pour 20 ± 1 1000mL of distilled water into the pouring chamber of the percussIon Meter, press the retaining handle to make the sealing cone rise automatically, then release your finger, and count the time at the same time, until the water outlet of the straight pipe is not at the water outlet, stop and count the time.

Comparison : The water filtration time between 148-150 seconds indicates that the straight pipe overflow is normal. If the pulp beating degree meter takes too long, it means that the overflow port is too small or there are pollutants adhering to the edge of the overflow port. It is necessary to gently dredge the overflow port with a cork strip to pierce the dirt out. If the time is too short, the overflow port is too large and should be replaced.
