Water-based paint is an environmentally friendly surface treatment that uses water as a solvent to disperse the resins used to make paint or paint: water requires 80% of the solvent used. Its purpose is to make paint or paint easy to apply and is an environmentally friendly product. Water-based paints are widely used because of their low VOC (volatile organic compound) content (less than 3.5 pounds per gallon of water). It can be applied to wood (eg furniture) and plastic substrates.

This type of coating contains a water-soluble resin; therefore, it dissolves completely in water and other solvents. Waterborne coatings contain organic co-solvents as it undergoes polycondensation or polymerization. It has the following characteristics:
high gloss
high corrosion protection
Wetting and stabilizing
good pigmentation
Good fluidity and leveling properties
Good heat resistance and wear resistance
low toxicity and flammability
Cleans up easily with water or water-based solutions
Although it takes longer to dry, it has an excellent finish and protection. Heat and air flow increases cure time. It can be used in conventional application techniques and spraying. Water-based paints are one of the better paints for porous materials. It contains binders that can be used in epoxy and alkyd resin formulations.
