What is latex paint?

Latex paint is the general term used to classify water-based paint emulsions produced using synthetic acrylic binders. They are used as protective coatings on metal substrates to prevent corrosion.

Latex paints contain an acrylic binder and are usually made from synthetic resins such as polyvinyl acetate and styrene butadiene. Latex paints are an excellent choice for general painting projects on both metallic and non-metallic surfaces. When applied to metal surfaces, they are called coatings.

Latex paint is very durable and resistant to scuffs and scratches. It also improves the reliability, adhesion and stability of the metal surface to be protected.

Disadvantages of latex paint include sensitivity to temperature changes, higher shrinkage, and the need for a primer before application.
