Elastomers are very versatile materials used in engineering applications. These materials behave quite differently from other products such as metals, plastics, etc.; mainly the way they deform and recover under specific loads. Rubber or elastomers are composite materials that reveal a combination of different properties; important among them are elasticity and elasticity. All elastomers are capable of being deformed through compression, stretching, torsion, and then returning to their original position and shape upon removal of the force that caused the material to bend, buckle, or deform of any kind . The elastic properties of elastomers help them return to their original shape.

Properties of Elastomers

Elastomers consist of polymers with primarily elastic properties. These elastomers are composed of carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen forming long chains of atoms that are highly crosslinked with the attached chains.
