Use and maintenance

1. Clean the cup body with a suitable solvent before and after use.

2. Choose an appropriate cup number, and try to make the outflow time meet the recommended outflow time in the above table.

3. Immerse the cup body in the container for 1 to 5 minutes to make the cup reach thermal equilibrium, then pull the cup vertically out of the raw material, and the action needs to be fast and steady. When the top edge of the cup leaves the liquid surface, keep the cup body vertical when the liquid flows, and the distance between the bottom of the cup and the liquid surface of the container should not exceed 150mm. Stop timing when the first breakpoint occurs, and the number of seconds of outflow time at this time indicates a certain viscosity value. The difference between the two measured values should be less than 5% of the average value.

4. Convert the outflow time into kinematic viscosity according to the following formula: (sample temperature is 25°C±0.5°C when measuring)

    ν = k(t - c)

In the formula: ν—kinematic viscosity, cSt

           t — outflow time, s

k, c — corresponding constants (see table below)

FAQ
QI want to measure the viscosity of paints, probably in the range of 20-50cSt, which model of Zahn Cup should I choose?
A The CNDB-1 model is recommended because its Measurement range is 5-60cSt, which exactly covers the viscosity range you need, and the flow hole diameter of 2mm ensures that the outflow time is within the recommended 35-80 seconds, so that the measured data is more accurate.
QMeasure the viscosity of varnish about 300cSt, which cup is suitable?
A It is recommended to use the CNDB-3 model. Measurement range is 150-850cSt, fully covering 300cSt, and the 3.8mm flow hole can ensure that the outflow time is within the standard range, so that the error is minimized when converted to kinematic viscosity.
QWhat is the maintenance method of Zahn viscosity cup after use?
A Clean the cup with a suitable solvent before and after use to ensure that the cup is clean and free of residual liquid to ensure the accuracy of measurement.
QWhat are the steps for viscosity measurement with a Zahn viscosity cup?
A Clean the cup body before use, select the appropriate cup number, immerse it in the liquid for 1-5 minutes, pull it out vertically and time it, stop timing when the liquid flows out at the first breakpoint, and record the outflow time.
QThe main use of CNDB Zahn viscosity cup?
A CNDB Zahn viscosity cup is mainly used to test the viscosity of Newtonian or approximate Newtonian fluids.
QWhat steps should I pay attention to when using the CNDB Zahn viscosity cup?
A The cup needs to be cleaned with a suitable solvent before and after use. Select the appropriate cup number to make the outflow time meet the recommended time as much as possible. After immersing the cup body in the container for 1 to 5 minutes to achieve hot equilibrate, then pull out the cup vertically. The action should be fast and smooth. From the time the upper edge of the cup leaves the liquid surface, the liquid should be kept vertical when flowing, and ensure that the distance between the bottom of the cup and the liquid surface of the container does not exceed 150mm. Stop timing when the first breakpoint occurs. At this time, the number of seconds of outflow time indicates a certain size of viscosity value. The difference between the two measured values should be less than 5% of the average value.
QDoes this Zahn viscosity cup meet the JJG743 standard?
A The Zahn viscosity cup is suitable for JJG743, please consult customer service for detailed application definition
QCoating viscosity measured by flow cup method, must be at the specified temperature? If not according to the specified viscosity will have any impact?
A Viscosity cup measurement generally has 3 variables, viscosity, outflow time and temperature. Temperature is specified in many viscosity measurement standards because temperature has a large impact on viscosity, and the change of viscosity with temperature may not be dominant, and any diluted material used to adjust viscosity may also change the rate of this change.
