HI4104Calcium Combined Ion Selective Electrode (ISE)
HI4104 is a liquid membrane for the determination of calcium (Ca2+) in solution with a combined ion-selective electrode (ISE). PVC membranes consisting of organic ion exchangers produce potential variations due to the exchange of calcium ions between the organic polymer membrane and the sample. The internal sensing element is housed in a durable polyetherimide (PEI) body. The HI4104 is a reliable choice for a wide range of applications in the food and beverage industry and water analysis.

The HI4104 calcium-selective electrode is a complete potentiometric cell containing a silver/silver chloride (Ag/AgCl) reference material, which is housed in a PEI plastic with a potassium chloride electrolyte. The internal elements are separated from the sample by an organic polymer sensing membrane.
Hanna's liquid film combination ISE features a tapered knot design, the base cone geometry of the sensor forms a liquid junction with the test solution at the tip of the junction cone, resulting in a highly stable reference potential and a consistent flow rate of electrolyte into the solution, which can be easily emptied and replaced if necessary with a simple press on the top of the ISE.
For the HI4104 to accurately measure calcium, it is important to adjust the ionic strength of the standard and sample to a high and constant value with a calcium ion strength regulator (ISA) solution. The ISA ensures that the coefficient of activity is constant, so the concentration of free calcium ions can be measured. Measuring all solutions with constant ionic strength reduces the margin of error between measurements. HI4104 Calcium Liquid Film ISE can measure from 3 μM (0.12 mg/L) to 1 M (40,080 mg/L).
