QWhat is the purpose of this low pressure pinholing detector measurement?
A The low voltage pinholing test is performed by moving the wetting's charged sponge onto a non-conductive coating applied to the conductive substrate. The instrument is typically "grounded" or "grounded" to the conductive substrate by clamping onto an uncoated area. When the coating is continuous and there are no defects, electricity cannot be transferred from the sponge to the substrate through the non-conductive coating. But when the charged sponge encounters a defect in the coating, electricity is able to flow into the substrate and return to the instrument via the ground wire, completing the circuit and triggering audible and visible alarms.
