Introduction

A gauge that measures the thickness of an object. It is commonly used in industrial production to continuously measure the thickness of products (such as steel plates, steel strips, paper, etc.). Among these instruments are radioactive Thickness Gauges that utilize the penetrating properties of α-rays, β-rays, and γ-rays; ultrasonic Thickness Gauges that use ultrasonic frequency changes; eddy current Thickness Gauges that use the principle of eddy currents; and capacitive Thickness Gauges. The use of microwave and laser technology to make a Thickness Gauge is still in the development and testing stage.
