The SY/T 5646-1993 (1998) standard specifies the technical conditions for the measurement of the viscosity of petroleum products and Miscellaneous liquids. The standard describes in detail the structure, performance requirements and methods of use of the Viscometer, including its working principle, Accuracy grade and calibrate requirements. The Viscometer determines the viscosity of a liquid by measuring the ratio of the time it takes for a liquid to flow out of the Viscometer at a certain temperature to the time it takes for distillation water to flow out, in Engelard degrees. The standard also specifies the material of manufacture of the instrument, Measurement accuracy and operating conditions to ensure the accuracy and comparability of test results.
