The ASTM D6132-2013 (2017) standard describes a method for accurate, nondestructive measurement of organic coating dry-film thickness applied on heterogeneous substrates using an ultrasonic Coating thickness gauge. Suitable for field structures, commercial products, or laboratory samples, measurement of coating thickness on a variety of substrates, including concrete, wood, wallboard, plastics, fiber composites, and metals. Not suitable for coatings that are easily deformable under measuring instrument loads. Measurement ranges from 8 microns to 7.60 millimeters (0.3 to 300 mils). The effect of coating thickness on performance, as well as safety and health responsibilities, are also discussed in the standard.
