The DIN EN 13523-2-2014 standard specifies a procedure for the determination of organic coating gloss on metal substrates. Gloss is an important feature for the Appearance of coil-coated metal products. The method is suitable for all chromadizing and non-chromadizing coatings, including metal/pearlescent coatings. However, for textured coatings, the method provides only indicative results. A planar sample larger than the measurement aperture is required, and measurement of uneven surfaces is not possible. For measurement, gloss is determined by specular reflection, usually at a 60 ° angle, and a 20 ° or 85 ° angle may also be used for more accurate measurement of high or low luminance values.
