The ASTM D6037-2018 standard provides two test methods for evaluating the dry abrasion resistance of high Gloss coatings. Method A uses a swirl/spin specimen rack to slide against two grinding wheels; Method B uses a reciprocating specimen rack to reciprocate on a stationary wheel equipped with sandpaper. These methods are suitable for evaluating the dry abrasion resistance of coatings on flat and hard surfaces, and can well distinguish the abrasion resistance of different coatings. Note that the abrasion resistance values obtained by these methods are not absolute, and should only be used for relative performance rankings, and should be used with caution when referencing between different laboratories.
