This standard specifies the Spectrophotometric method, spectrophotometry, for the determination of formaldehyde in water. It is suitable for the determination of formaldehyde in surface water, groundwater and industrial wastewater, but not for printing and dyeing wastewater. The principle of the method is that formaldehyde reacts with acetylacetone to form a yellow compound with Maximum absorption at a wavelength of 414 nm.
