This standard specifies a general test method for determining the density of pigment samples using a Centrifuge to exclude entrained air. If the general method is not applicable to a particular product, a special method shall be specified, using a designated Centrifuge to determine the density. Dissolved samples with good wettability and low volatilization rates should be selected for replacement liquids, usually aromatic or aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents with a high boiling point. Temperature has an effect on the density of the replacement liquid, but does not affect the density of the specimen, so each weighing must be performed at a constant temperature. If thermostatic conditions are not available, the temperature at each weighing should be indicated and the density of the replacement liquid should be corrected.
