This standard specifies methods for the determination of yield stress and apparent viscosity of used engine oils cooled down to specified temperatures at specified chill down rates. It is suitable for viscosity determination in the range of 525Pa shear stress and shear rate of 0.4s ¬ to 15s ¬. For used diesel engine oils, the suitability and accuracy for Miscellaneous oils have not been determined. Viscosity units are expressed in milliPa · s. Users should establish safety measures and refer to normative reference documents before use. The viscosity measured by this method is called apparent viscosity, while the viscosity of Newtonian oils or fluids remains constant at any shear rate or shear stress.
