This standard specifies a test method for qualitatively evaluating the bonding performance of ceramic coatings with a thickness of not more than 20 microns based on indentation crazing using a Rockwell hardness tester. It can also be used to evaluate the bonding performance of metallic coatings, but not for resilience coatings on hard substrates. The test results apply to samples of the same thickness and the same substrate/coating, and are compared under the same indentation load. The principle of the test is to apply indentation on the surface of the coating sample, observe the crazing and flaking to evaluate the bonding performance of the coating.
