ASTM E92-23 standard specifies the test method for Vickers hardness and Knoop hardness of metal materials. Vickers hardness is assessed by applying a pyramid-shaped diamond indenter to measure the length of the diagonal of the indentation; Knoop hardness is measured by applying a rhombus-shaped diamond indenter to measure the size of the indentation. The standard applies to all kinds of metal materials, especially for hardness testing of small areas or thin layers of materials. The standard describes in detail the test equipment, operation procedures, hardness value calculation method and the accuracy requirements of the test results.
