The ISO 17493 standard specifies a test method for testing the convective heat resistance of protective clothing and equipment using a hot air circulating oven. The method is designed to assess the physical changes of materials at specific exposure temperatures, including visible changes and performance measurements following heat exposure. In addition, measurement of cissing due to heat exposure is also possible. Different procedures are provided depending on the type of protective clothing material or article being tested. The standard applies to the assessment of heat resistance of protective clothing materials, articles and equipment when exposed to a hot air circulating oven.
