The ISO 16260:2016 standard specifies a method for the determination of the internal bonding strength of paper and Cardboard, which is mainly used to evaluate the bonding force between the fibers inside the paper or Cardboard. This method uses a Scott-type instrument to measure the energy required for the specimen to break in the Z direction (thickness direction) using a pendulum Impact specimen. The result is expressed in joules per square meter (J/m ²). The standard applies to single-layer and multi-layer papers and Cardboard, including Spreader paper and Cardboard with a polymer film on the surface, but not to low-weight, porous, soft or low-density papers. Internal bonding strength is an important indicator of paper and Cardboard mass, which is widely used in quality control and product development.
