This standard operating procedure is used to evaluate the degree of biofouling sedimentation and its physical performance of marine coating systems under immersion conditions in the marine environment. The procedure provides a relative method for assessing biofouling deposition and coating system durability, but cannot be used as an absolute indicator of long-term performance. Different environmental conditions and fouling species can cause differences in performance. Therefore, this standard applies to a relative assessment of coating performance rather than to determine its absolute durability. The relevant ASTM standard also provides guidelines for specimen preparation, exposure and handling.
