The ASTM D1874-16 standard specification applies to the selection and testing of a water or solvent soluble liquid gluing agent for sealing the top cover of a fiberboard transport case. The specification covers a wide variety of liquid gluing agents (except pressure sensitive types) including starch, dextrin, casein, and Resin binder. The specification specifies the conditions under which the gluing agent is selected, including machining characteristics on specific equipment and adhesion force under specified storage conditions. Uniformity of the gluing agent is ensured by controlling changes in nonvolatile composition and viscosity. Test items include non-volatile content, consistency, gluing persistence, and water-absorption to guarantee the reliability of the gluing agent in actual use.
