ASTM D5276-19 (2023) is a standard test method used to evaluate the impact resistance of loaded containers under free fall impact conditions. The method is designed to simulate the sudden impact that containers may be subjected to during transportation and handling, and to evaluate their ability to protect internal Encasements and contents. With this test method, it is possible to compare the performance of different package designs, observe the possible progressive failure of containers and the degree of damage to their contents. It is suitable for all types of containers handled manually. It is not suitable for containers over 110 pounds (50 kg). It is suitable for the requirements of ISO 2206 and 2248. The standard emphasizes responsibility for safe use and environmental norms. It conforms to the principles of international standardization and helps to eliminate technical barriers to trade (TBT).
