The ASTM F3039-23 standard test method detects leaks in non-porous Encasement or flexible barrier materials by dyestuff penetration. This method is suitable for identifying and locating leak points, especially in Encasement edges or plates. The presence of a leak is determined by applying dyestuff penetrant to the sealing edge or surface of the material and checking for dyestuff penetration or staining after a specified time. This method does not quantify the size of the leak. It is only used to determine whether a leak is present and the testing process is Destructiveness. It is not suitable for Encasement of the final product. It is suitable for the detection of transparent and opaque non-porous surfaces.
