The ASTM F 2228-13 (2021) standard test method for nondestructive detection of leakage in Encasement by CO2 tracer gas method is suitable for Encasement incorporating porous barrier materials. This method can effectively detect leakage between non-porous rigid thermoformed trays and porous caps, with sensitivity up to 100 μm for channel leakage and 50 μm for pinholing. The test process is simple, and there is no need for an operator to interpret the test results after initial setup and calibrate. Although this method is applied at a limited speed on the production line, it performs well in laboratory or statistical sampling tests and is particularly suitable for non-Destructiveness detection of high value-added products. The values provided in the standard are in SI units, and the values in brackets are for reference only.
