The D3078-02 (2021) e1 standard provides a method for detecting serious leaks in soft Encasement by means of bubble emission. This test utilizes a vacuum chamber to identify apparent leaks from Encasement containing top gas. The vacuum chamber needs to be able to withstand a pressure difference of about one atmosphere and is equipped with a vacuum sealing cap. During the test, an immersion solution that does not degrade Encasement material is used and the test sample and liquid are required to be equilibrated at normal room temperature. This method is able to detect leaks as small as 1 × 10 ^ -5 atm cm ³/s, but may not be sensitive to smaller leaks. The standard also emphasizes safety and health practices during testing, and states that values in inches-to-pounds are standard, and the conversion of international units is for reference only.
