The ASTM D6398-2014 standard provides guidance on drug container label design to avoid users confusing the names of different medications. Medication errors may result due to similarities in shape, size, Color, font, and layout of medications. The standard is designed to help design drug labels to make it easy to identify medications with different effects or potency, thus improving safety. The specification covers label design for prescription drug products, but does not apply to over-the-counter or retail product labels. Label designs should comply with the requirements of 21 CFR 201.66 and 21 CFR 429.12 and use SI units as the standard.
