ASTM D3332-99 (2023) is a standard test method regarding the measurement of mechanical impact brittleness of products using impact machines. This standard is intended to provide users with data on the impact brittleness of products, which can be used to select suitable cushioning materials for use in the design of shipping containers or product design modifications. Two test methods are covered by the standard: Method A is used to determine the critical velocity change of products, and Method B is used to determine the critical acceleration of products. Test results are in inches-pounds. Mathematical conversion values in SI units are for reference only. ASTM D3332-99 (2023) does not address all safety issues related to use. Users need to ensure that appropriate safety and health measures are taken before use and confirm the applicability of regulations.
