The ASTM D1248-2016 standard specifies the identification and classification of polyethylene (PE) plastic extrusion materials for use in wires and cables. It determines the type and class of polyethylene (PE) by density and Flow velocity (melt index), covering everything from Type 0 to Type IV and Category 1 to Category 5. The standard also tests the material for key physical properties, including tensile stress, elongation, environment stress cracking, etc., to ensure conformity and performance of the material in different applications. The specification requires that the material be supplied in powder, granular or granular form with guaranteed uniformity of composition and size. Recycled plastics are not allowed for use in this standard.
