The ASTM D1384-2005 standard provides a laboratory test method for evaluating the effect of engine chill down agents on corrosion of metal specimens in Glassware. This method is performed by a simple beaker procedure and is able to distinguish between significantly harmful chill down agents and those suitable for further evaluation. However, relying on this test result alone is not sufficient to demonstrate the comprehensiveness of the corrosion inhibition performance. The actual use effect of the chill down fluid needs to be confirmed by bench testing, dynamometer testing and field evaluation. The standard specifies the test procedures and conditions, but does not cover all safety issues. It is up to the user to determine the applicability of the relevant regulations.
